Frederick Grant Banting received many awards during his life time in the medical field and also through his military service. One of his greatest achievements was when he won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of insulin in 1923. He shared this award with J.J.R. Macleod even though Banting believed Best should have been in the place of Macleod.
"With the relief of the symptoms of his disease, and with the increased strength and vigor resulting from the increased diet, the pessimistic, melancholy diabetic becomes optimistic and cheerful. Insulin is not a cure for diabetes; it is a treatment."

Banting received the Military Cross in 1918 for his bravery and determination under fire. This award was awarded when Banting returned from World War 1 after being injured. Frederick Banting was also one of the last people to be knighted by King George V in 1934 where he became Sir Frederick G. Banting, a fitting title considering how much he had achieved.
