How has the invention of insulin affected Canada?
The invention of insulin has had a major, life saving affect on Canada. It has allowed diabetics to live long, healthy lives since 1922. Before the invention of insulin people with diabetes were faced with a death sentence. There was no treatment or cure for diabetes, except for putting patients on a strict diet with no sugar. This treatment would give patients a few more years to live if they were lucky, but many people were not this lucky. Some of the patients even died from starvation while trying to stick to their diet. Since insulin was discovered diabetics have been able to live full lives. Approximately nine million Canadians live with diabetes today. These people (friends, family, coworkers) would not be with us today if it wasn't for the invention of insulin. Millions of lives across the world have been saved since 1922 with the use of insulin. Even today researchers continue to make insulin easier to use and improve on the product.
